Ecology, Autonomy & Resistance in the U.S. Empire: voices from the frontlines

Location: Monastiriou 140 Akademia Platonos, Athens.

Presentation will be accompanied by projection of photos and
discussion to follow,
with Panagioti Tsolkas and Cara Jennings. Both are community
organizers and anarchist activists from Lake Worth (in South Florida)

Specific Presentation Topics include:

-a brief history and overview of radical ecology and direct action in
the U.S. (with a focus on the Earth First! movement)

-current organizing against the energy empire, genetic engineering and
the destruction of wild lands in Florida (ex. fossil fuels and
offshore drilling, nuclear power, animal testing, deforestation,
mining..)

-solidarity with indigenous and immigrant communities,

-supporting ecological/political prisoners

-growing local autonomy and sustainability (stories about our efforts
in Lake Worth to subvert developer control of the city and create
grassroots alternatives)

-report from the 2010 U.S. Social Forum in Detroit
